About Nicosia
|
Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, is situated in the middle of the island. It has all the hallmarks of a modern westernised city, which is thriving of shops, restaurants, bars, clubs and has the largest business centre on the island.
Nicosia is always busy the whole year through. In the summer it is the warmest city and in the winter the coldest due to the fact it is surrounded by forests and mountains. |
|
Nicosia has two sides to it the old Nicosia and the more modernized as mentioned above. The old Nicosia is surrounded by walls which were built by the Venetians. The main attractions can be found within these walls and can be explored on foot. The old city is a pleasant place to wonder about in and is complete with tourist facilities for all ages from restaurant old restored buildings, museums and lots more.
Nicosia is the only capital which is divided into two parts, since 1974 and the Turkish invasion. And towards the northern end of the streets of the old city you will come across the sandbags which mark the Green Line, which is the name of the divided parts.
